Chinese, Japanese & Asian Tattoo Design Gallery
The Asian method of tattooing is known as tebori, meaning “to carve by hand”. This is done using needles bundled at the end of a piece of bamboo, inserting charcoal ink into the skin. The tebori method for creating Asian tattoo designer evolved into the high-contract chiaroscuro colouring of the Japanese tattoo designs that are around today.
Asian-style tattoos are no longer created using tebori, but rather use modern electric tatto machines. These tattoo designs are often characterised by Chinese and Japanese imagery. Asian tattoo designs include samurai warriors, dragons, fish, cranes, and tigers. Kanji (Japanese symbols developed from Chinese lettering) are also common in Asian-style tattoos.
